Singapore Hifi Show 2011 : Final Notes

Thanks to all visitors, hope you had a nice time and made the most of it, even for a very small-sized show compared to others in the region.

Thanks as well to all who found either of our two rooms as the best in the show, or simply liked them. Glad to know that our attempt at presenting musicality combined with high fidelity has been appreciated  .

You would have noted that we did not try to outblast the other rooms and tried to keep our doors closed to keep the noise out, as we wanted to demonstrate the subtleties, the nuances, and the emotional aspect of the music, as well as the wonderful soundstage and resolution, timbre, and other sonic characteristics.

Of course, due to the small and untreated rooms, the best place to listen would have been at the sweet spot.

To summarize, below are some pictures of our rooms and some notes on equipment used:

Singapore HiFi Show 2011 - Voxativ and Da Vinci Room

For this room, We actually had 3 different sonic presentations, one for each day, as we tried different combinations of analog gear. It also illustrates how one can easily change the sound, tonality for example, when one is equipped with a turntable system.

The 1st day was with a very warm and euphonic sounding phono cartridge geared for the midrange, and a wider toe-in of the speakers.

2nd day was a more neutral presentation with a Da Vinci cartridge taking over and phono stage with Sovtek tubes.

3rd day was a sonic balance between that of the 1st and 2nd day, with a change of phono stage to Da Vinci, increasing resolution as well. This was our personal favorite tonal balance. Each person would have their own tastes of course; otherwise, each of us would be having the same systems.

And thanks to Ines Adler, designer and CEO of Voxativ, for readjusting the speaker positioning. She really has great ears and exceptional setup skills, like she had a box of records on the side of the room removed and it tightened up the focus considerably.

Essentially, all setups at the show are really just guides, a chance for folks to see the actual products and hear some combinations. Setup and combinations would still be very important factors in getting the right sound to suit one’s taste.

Singapore HiFi Show 2011 - Estelon, Lavardin, Neodio, Argento, Organic Audio Room

In this system, we demonstrated that a simple system of very high quality equipment can be superb. Furthermore, the matching allowed us to use the big Estelon XA speakers in the small room. A lot of importance should really be put on matching and setup.

Oft-repeated questions were :

What tubes are being used ?
How many tubes are inside the amp ?

:) Well, we have always mentioned that the Lavardin IT-15 is a solid-state amplifier that sounds like a great tube amplifier, without the valves. Emphasis on great, as not all tube amps are of similar qualities. I guess our demo in this room proved it.

If you have missed the show, you can always hear some of the equipment mentioned above at our dealer showroom (* systems subject to variations). The Da Vinci system will still be on demo, for a limited period.
